The summary of the lesson 'A visit to Kaziranga and Sivasagar" is about journey of two children. The writer narrates how two children travel with their parents to Kaziranga National Park and Sivsagar, a place of historical importance.

Lohit and Trishna went to Kaziranga and Sivasagar with their parents during their school vacation. Both of them were very delighted to enjoy the beauty of Kaziranga. They visited all the historical sites of Sivasagar including all the temples, ponds ancient moidam, the Rang ghar and the Talatal ghar.

Their parents had explained them all the facts behind that. They travelled with their own car and they first visited the Kaziranga National Park. Their mother clearly explained them about the history of Kaziranga National Park anr also the need of conserving such park.

They saw many wild animals and variety of rare plants there. Both of them were very happy to visit the place and see its beauty. After that they went to Sivasagar town and visited the historical monuments of Sivasagar.

लोहित और तृष्णा स्कूल की छुट्टियों के दौरान अपने माता-पिता के साथ काजीरंगा और शिवसागर गए थे। काजीरंगा की सुंदरता का आनंद उठाकर वे दोनों बहुत प्रसन्न हुए। उन्होंने सभी मंदिरों, तालाबों प्राचीन मोइदम, रंग घर और तलातल घर सहित शिवसागर के सभी ऐतिहासिक स्थलों का दौरा किया।

उनके माता-पिता ने उन्हें इसके पीछे के सभी तथ्य बताए थे। उन्होंने अपनी कार से यात्रा की और उन्होंने सबसे पहले काजीरंगा राष्ट्रीय उद्यान का दौरा किया। उनकी मां ने उन्हें काजीरंगा राष्ट्रीय उद्यान के इतिहास के बारे में स्पष्ट रूप से समझाया और इस तरह के पार्क के संरक्षण की आवश्यकता भी बताई।

उन्होंने वहां कई जंगली जानवर और कई तरह के दुर्लभ पौधे देखे। वे दोनों उस जगह का दौरा करके और उसकी सुंदरता को देखकर बहुत खुश हुए। उसके बाद वे शिवसागर शहर गए और शिवसागर के ऐतिहासिक स्मारकों का दौरा किया।.

Q1. Write briefly the history of Kaziranga as a protected area. 
Ans: In 1904, Mary Curzon, the wife of Lord Curzon, the viceroy of India visited Kaziranga. Mary Curzon heard that the Kaziranga was famous for rhino, but she could not find a single rhino there. So she requested her husband to take immediate measures to protect the rhinos. In 1905, the Kaziranga Reserve forest was created and in 1916 it was named as Kaziranga game sanctuary. Then visitor are allowed to enter in the park and hunting was strictly prohibited. In 1950 it was renamed as the Kaziranga wild life sanctuary by P.D. Stracey and in 1974 it was designated as a National Park.


Q2. Write a short note on Talatal ghar. 
Ans: Talatal ghar is a historical monument, it has four storeys above the ground and three storeys below the ground. There were two secret tunnels inside the Talatal ghar, one is 16 km long led to Gargaon Palace and other is 3 km long led to the Dikhow river.

Q3. Write a note on Charaideo Maidam. 
Ans: Charaideo Maidam is a burial ground for the Ahom kings and nobles. It is 22km away from Sivsagar town, the founder of the Ahom dynasty Siu - Ka - Pha made charaideo his first capital. The Ahom believed Charaideo Maidam to be the home to their ancestral gods. The maidam has tomb like the pyramids in Egypt.
