Hand sanitizer is a liquid, gel or foam generally used to decrease infectious agents on the hands. Alcohol-based hand sanitizers are preferable to hand washing with soap and water than non-alcohol based sanitizers. Alcohol-based hand sanitizer works against a wide variety of microorganisms.

Alcohol-based sanitizers versions typically contain some combination of isopropyl alcohol, ethanol, or n-propanol, with versions containing 60% to 95% alcohol the most effective. And non-alcohol based sanitizers versions typically contain benzalkonium chloride or triclosan.

While using or storing hand sentizers special care should be taken. It is dangerous for children under six years of age and should not be stored in car as they are flammable.

'Covid 19' or Corona virus is a recent pandemic, it is an infectious disease. Covid 19 was first identified in Wuhan city, China during December 2019. Corona virus causes illness in the respiratory system of humans and it spreads primarily through contact.

Inorder to prevent covid 19 we need to take some precautions like, washing hands regularly with soap or sanitizer, wearing mask and maintaining social distance of 1 to 3 meter.

The best way to prevent the spread of infections and decrease the risk of getting sick of covid 19 is by washing our hands with sanitizers, plain soap and water, advises the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Washing hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds is essential, especially after going to the bathroom, before eating, and after coughing, sneezing, blowing one’s nose and meeting others.

If soap and water are not available, CDC recommends consumers use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol as it wiped out at least 99.9% of the virus within 15 seconds.

But as a study carried by Brigham Young University found that alcohol-free sanitizers were just as effective as alcohol-induced sanitizers. So in conclusion we can say that hand sanitizers are effective against COVID-19.
