The Rakhi is a symbol of sister's faith and love to brothers that stays forever. Festival of Rakhi or Raksha bandhan is a popular festival of Hindus. It is celebrated all over India on the full-moon day of the month of July or August.

Raksha bandhan means bond of protection. Raksha means protection and Bandhan means bond. It is a festival of sisters and brothers. The history of Raksha bandhan dates back to Hindu mythology.

On this day people wake up early and wear new clothes. Sisters put rakhi, diya, haldi and sweet on a thali, sit at one place to perform the ritual. Sisters put tika on the forhead of their brothers, tie the colourful thread (rakhi) on the wrist of their brothers to protect them against evil influences, and pray for their long life and happiness, make their brothers eat sweet with their own hands.
