The Prince of Panidihing is the lesson 1 from SCERT English for class 8 Assam. The Prince of Panidihing is a story about a seventeen years old boy, Khagen who is called 'The Prince of Panidihing" by the villagers and his friends as he is brave and helpful.

The Prince of Panidihing class 8 Summary in English

The prince of Panidihing is a story of a flood in a village named Chitolia and how the people of the Chitolia responded to it. 


This story “The Prince of Panidihing” circulate around the life of Khagen, a young and brave boy of seventeen years who is called as “The Prince of Panidihing” by the village folk and also by his classmates of Nitaipukhuri college.


It was the monsoon season, it rained heavily all week. The swelling water of the Brahmaputra continued rising, Panic gripped Chitolia and its neighboring villages. As the village was situated close to the Brahmaputra river. Khagen’s own village Borgaon was not far from there.


One morning, a loud roar alerted the villagers. The villagers got a signal that something terrible had happened. The embankment which was built to control the flood at Chitolia village was breached. 


In no time, after the breach of embankment huge waves of water entered into the village. That was a horrible scene, everywhere there was hue and cry. Villagers were stranded and had to sheltered on roof-tops of the Chang-ghars. 


After hearing the condition of Chitolia village, in a moment Khagen along with his friends with five banana rafts and one boat moved towards Chitolia village and rescued the villagers by bringing them to the high grounds of the school building. 


After rescuing them Khagen and his friends arranged food and water for the flood victims and the civil authorities at Demow were also informed immediately. 


Khagen also helped Dr. Hatibaruah and his wife, they were stranded in their hospital quarters at kotiori.

यह कहानी "The prince of Panidihing" Khagen के जीवन के इर्द-गिर्द घूमती है, जो सत्रह साल के एक युवा और बहादुर लड़के को कहा जाता है, जिसे गाँव के लोगों द्वारा और Nitaipukhuri कॉलेज के उसके सहपाठियों द्वारा "The prince of Panidihing" कहा जाता है।


यह मानसून का मौसम था, पूरे हफ्ते भारी बारिश हुई। ब्रह्मपुत्र की सूजन का पानी बढ़ता रहा, पैनिक ने Chitolia और उसके आसपास के गांवों को अपनी चपेट में ले लिया। चूंकि यह गांव ब्रह्मपुत्र नदी के बहुत करीब स्थित था। Khagen का अपना गाँव Borgaon वहाँ से बहुत दूर नहीं था।


एक सुबह, एक तेज गर्जना ने ग्रामीणों को सतर्क कर दिया। ग्रामीणों को संकेत मिला कि कुछ भयानक हुआ है। Chitolia गाँव में बाढ़ को नियंत्रित करने के लिए बनाया गया तटबंध टूट गया था।


कुछ ही समय में, तटबंध टूटने के बाद पानी की विशाल लहरें गाँव में प्रवेश कर गईं। वह एक भयानक दृश्य था, हर जगह रोना और रोना था। ग्रामीण फंसे हुए थे और उन्हें चांग-घर के छतों पर शरण लेनी पड़ी।


Chitolia गाँव की स्थिति सुनने के बाद, एक क्षण में Khagen अपने दोस्तों के साथ पाँच केले राफ्ट और एक नाव से Chitolia गाँव की ओर चले गए और ग्रामीणों को स्कूल भवन के ऊँचे मैदान में लाकर बचाया।


उन्हें बचाने के बाद Khagen और उनके दोस्तों ने बाढ़ पीड़ितों के लिए भोजन और पानी की व्यवस्था की और Demow के नागरिक अधिकारियों को भी तुरंत सूचित किया गया।


Khagen ने Dr. Hatibaruah और उनकी पत्नी की भी मदद की, वे kotiori में अपने अस्पताल के क्वार्टर में फंसे हुए थे।

Ans: Khagen and Dambaru reached to the medical where Dr. Hatibaruah and his wife Moni Baidew were stranded with great effort. They reached there after half an hour and took them into the boat with their bags. However, at some point of their journey, their boat got trapped in a whirlpool. Six people riding in the boat spilt in the water but somehow moved back to a higher place safely. 


(e) Why did the people of the village call Khagen "The Prince of Panidihing" ?

Ans: The people of the village called Khagen "the Prince of Panidihing" because Khagen was a brave brave and kind hearted. He was always ready to help others even by putting his own life in danger. He made his own team to do all sorts of social activities.

Panidihing: 10th July: Due to heavy and continuous rainfall for a week, the recent situation is very critical in Panidihing. Panic gripped in Panidihing as it submerged under the overflowing water of the river Brahmaputra. The speedy current of the water breached the embankment of the river Brahmaputra. The villagers had to take shelters on their roof tops. The neighbouring villages came for their rescue and the local authorities at Demow were also informed. As part of quick remedy, rafts and boats were made ready and the affected villagers along with their livestock rescued to a safer location.
