Voice change for class 12 HS 2nd Year: Dear students, here you will get solved voice changes questions from your class 12 previous board final exam. You will get solved voice change from hs final 2002 to 2020.

Voice: Voice is the form of the verb which shows whether the subject acts or is acted upon.

 Active voice: When the subject of the sentence is the doer.

 Passive voice: When the subject of the sentence is acted upon.

 Voice Change rules

 1. The object of the active voice becomes the subject of the verb in the passive voice and the subject of the active voice becomes the object of the preposition ‘by’ .

 2. Pronoun of the active voice change in the passive voice from subjective pronoun to objective pronoun.
 I = Me,  He = Him,  She = Her,  We = Us,  They = Them,  You = You

 3. According to the tense form of the verb of active voice use Be verb's form in passive voice
 Simple present - am / is / are
 Simple past     - was / were
 Continuous (ing) - being
 Perfect (have/has, had) - been
 Future / auxiliary - be


 4. The main verb of the active sentence changes into the past participle form (v³). 


Voice change formula


1. Simple Present:
 Active: S + V + O
 Passive : O + am / is / are + V(v3) + by + S
 Active : Do / does + S + V + O ?
 Passive : Am / is / are + O + V(v3) + by + S ?

 2. Present Continuous:
 Active: S + am/ is / are + V + ing + O
 Passive : O + am / is / are + being + V(v3) + by + S

 3. Present Perfect:
 Active: S + have / has + V(v3) + O
 Passive : O + have / has + been + V(v3) + by + S

 4. Simple Past:
 Active: S + V (past) + O
 Passive : O + was / were + V(v3) + by + S
 Active : Did + S + V + O ?
 Passive : Was / were + O + V(v3) + by + S ?

 5. Past Continuous:
 Active: S + was / were + V + ing + O
 Passive : O + was / were + being + V(v3) + by + S


 6. Past Perfect:
 Active: S + had + V(v3) + O
 Passive : O + had + been + V(v3) + by + S

 7. Simple Future:
 Active: S + shall / will + V + O
 Passive : O + shall / will + be + V(v3) + by + S


 8. Future Perfect:
 Active: S + shall / will + have + V(v3) + O + by + time phrase
 Passive : O + shall / will + have + been + V(v3) + by + S + by + time phrase


 9. Imperative Sentence:
 i) Active : V + O
 Passive : Let + O + be + done

 ii) Active : Please + V + O
 Passive : You are requested to + V + O


 10. Factive Object:
 Active: S + V + O (noun/pronoun) + fact
 Passive: O + be verb + V(v3) + fact + by + S

 11. Double object:
 Active: S + V + indirect object (noun/pronoun) + direct object
 Passive: i) Indirect object + be verb + V(v3) + direct object + by + S
 ii) Direct object + be verb + V(v3) + indirect object + by + S

12. Can / may / must / might
Active: S + can / may / must / must + V + O
Passive: O + can / may / must / might + be + V(v3) + by + S

13. Omission
In some passive voice subject is left out.

1. H.S. 2002

(A) The town was destroyed by an earthquake.
= An eathquake destroyed the town.

(B) The letters were being delivered by the postman.
= The postman was delivering the letters.

(C) My father gave me a book.
= A book was given me by my father. Or
   I was given a book by my father.

(D) They laugh at us
= We are laugh at us

2. HS 2003

(A) They promised Mary a new doll for her birthday.
  = Mary was promised a new doll for her birthday.

(B) The doctor had ordered me a new diet.
  = A new diet had been ordered me by the doctor.

(C) He was allowed five minutes to get ready.
   = They allowed him five minutes to get ready.

(D) I was told the latest news by a friend his morning.
    = The latest news was told to me by a friend this morning.

3. HS 2004

(A) The pupils have never been taught to do that exercise.
    = The teacher has never taught the pupils to do that exercise.

(B) The soldiers were told to report to the captain.
   = The chief told the soldiers to report the captain.

 (C) They have made John manager of the farm.
   = John has been made manager of the farm.

(D) The owner himself showed them the house.
   = They were Shown the house by the owner himself.

4.HS 2005

(A) They were carrying the injured to the hospital.
   = The injured was being carried to the hospital by them.

(B) English is spoken all over the world.
   = People speak English all over the world.

(C) Who has broken the window pane ?
    = By whom has the window pane been broken ?

(D) He was laughed at by all.
    = All laughed at him.

5.HS 2006

(A) His behaviour vexed me some times.
   = I am vexed at his behaviour sometimes.

(B) The Mayor's speech was loudly cheered.
   = The audience loudly cheered the Mayor's speech.

(C) Why did no one inform me of the changes of plan ?
    = Why was I not informed of the changes of plan by anyone ?

(D) The entire block is being demolished.
   = They are demolishing the entire block.

6. HS 2007

(A) Mr. John teaches us English.
   = We are taught English by Mr.John / English is taught us by Mr.John.

(B) He will be made king by people.
   = People will make him king.

(C) Let the bill be paid today.
    = Pay the bill today

(D) The Mayor's speech was loudly cheered.
   = The audience loudly cheered the Mayor's speech.

7.HS 2008

(A) Keep the book on the table.
   = Let the book be kept on the table.

(B) She is writing a letter.
   = A letter is being written by her.

(C) He will be forgotten in a few years.
   = People will forget him in a few years.

(D) The clown is being laughed at.
    = They are laughing at the clown.

8.HS 2009

(A) Shut the door.
   = let the door be shut.

(B) Who wrote the Ramayana ?
   = By whom was the Ramayana written ?

(C) The players are being trained by the coach.
   = The coach is training the players.

(D) The poem has been written by Partha.
  = Partha has written the poem.

9.HS 2010

(A) I was annoyed at his conduct.
  = His conduct annoyed me.

(B) Rahul is flying a kite.
  = A kite is being flown by Rahul.

(C) Who has broken the glass ?
  = By whom has the glass been broken ?

(D) Let the game be finished.
  = Finish the game.

10 HS 2011

(A) The man was pelted with stones.
= They / Somebody pelted the man with stones.

(B) I shall never forget you.
= You will never be forgotten by me.

(C) Post the letter immediately.
= Let the letter be posted immediately.

(D) Who wrote the Gitanjali ?
= By whom was the Gitanjali written ?

11. H.S. 2013

(A) My bicycle has been stolen.
= Someone has stolen my bicycle.

(B) He is expected soon.
= We expect him soon.

(C) He likes tea.
= Tea is liked by him.

(D) Please give me some more time.
= You are requested to give me some more time.

12. H.S 2014

(A) The students were told to leave the room.
= The teacher told the students to leave the room.

(B) Guwahati is called the gateway to North east.
= People call Guwahati the gateway to North east.

(C) They laughed at us.
= We were laughed at by them.

(D) My umbrella has been broken.
= Someone has broken my umbrella.

(E) The thief has been beaten up by the mob.
= The mob has beaten up the thief.

13. H.S 2015

(A) She bought the baby a doll.
= The baby was bought a doll by her. Or
   A doll was bought the baby by her.

(B) They were refused their admission.
= The authority refused their admission.

(C) The leader was welcomed by the people.
= The people welcomed the leader.

(D) My watch has been stolen.
= Somebody has stolen my watch.

14. H.S 2016

(A) She handed me the letter.
= The letter was handed me by her. Or
  I was handed the letter by her.

(B) They laughed at us.
= We were laughed at by them.

(C) The stranger made an attempt to break into the house.
= An attempt was made by the stranger to break into the house.

(D) The students were told to leave the room.
= The teacher told the student to leave the room.

(E) Have they done the work ?
= Has the work been done by them ?

15. H.S 2017

(A) Football is played everywhere.
= People play football everywhere.

(B) Do the work immediately.
= Let the work be done immediately.

(C) Who opened the door ?
= By whom was the door opened ?

(D) I have lost the book.plll
= The book has been lost by me.

(E) The coach is training the players.
= The players are being trained by the coach.

16. H.S 2018

(A) A Japanese firm makes these television sets.
= These television sets are made by a Japanese firm.

(B) An earthquake destroyed the town.
= The town was destroyed by an earthquake.

(C) Whom did you laugh at ?
= Who was laughed at by you ?

(D) He was taught this in his boyhood.
= His parents taught him this in his boyhood.

(E) Shut the window.
= Let the window be shut.

17. H.S 2019

(A) Drive the car slowly.
= You are advised to drive the car slowly.

(B) I am writing a letter now.
= A letter is being written by me now.

(C) We should not encourage indiscipline.
= Indiscipline should not be encouraged.

(D) Who wrote the Ramayana ?
= By whom was the Ramayana written ?

(E) Promise should be kept.
= One should keep one's promise.

18. H.S. 2020
(A) A: The nurse is looking after this little girl
      P: This little girl is being looked after by the nurse

(B) A: Morning shows the day
       P: Everybody says that morning shows the day.

(C) A: The glass has not been broken by anybody
      P: Anybody has not broken the glass

(D) A: What causes an earthquake ?
       P: By what an earthquake is caused ?

(E) A: The ground has to be cleared by us
      P: We have to cleared the ground

(F) A: The Governor gave him a reward.
      P: He was given a reward by the Governor
      P: A reward was given him by the Governor


Voice change for SSC exam

1. Active: Hari will write a letter.
    Passive: A letter will be written by Hari.

2. Active: Who teaches you English ?
     Passive: By whom is English taught to you ?

3. Active: Sugar sells by kilogram.
    Passive: Sugar is sold by kilogram.

4. Active: Mohan learns English.
    Passive: English is learned by Mohan.

5. Active: I am cooking my lunch.
    Passive: My lunch is being cooked by me.

6. Active: We have booked our tickets.
    Passive: Our tickets have been booked.

7. Active: Someone has stolen my pen.
    Passive: My pen has been stolen.

8. Active: Why did they beat you ?
    Passive: Why were you beaten by them ?

9. Active: He drew a picture.
    Passive: A picture was drawn by him.

10. Active: John was driving a car.
       Passive: A car was being driven by John.

11. Active: Do it at once.
       Passive: Let it be done at once.

12. Active: Sit down
       Passive: You are requested to sit down.

13. Active: He may sing a song.
       Passive: A song may be sung by him.

14. Active: We are to do this job.
       Passive: This job is to be done by us.

15. Active: We should do our work.
      Passive: Our work should be done by us.

16. Active: I expected you to do it.
       Passive: It was expected to be done by you.

17. Active: Never tell a lie.
       Passive: Never let a lie be told.

18. Passive: The crop had not been sown by the farmer.
       Active: The farmer had not sown the crop.

19. Active: The mod was stoning the thief.
       Passive: The thief was being stoned by the mob.

20. Active: Our guests missed the train.
       Passive: The train was missed by our guests.

21. Active: His words have annoyed her.
       Passive: She has been annoyed by his words.

22. Active: I pleased my teacher.
       Passive: My teacher was pleased with me.

23. Active: They have built a big house.
       Passive: A big house has been built by them.

24. Active: I shall do it.
       Passive: It will be done by me.

25. Active: One should keep one's promise.
       Passive: Promise should be kept.

26. Active: Did you waste money ?
       Passive: Was money wasted by you ?

27. Active: What have you done ?
       Passive: What has been done by you ?

28. Active: They elected him President.
       Passive: He was elected President by them.

29. Active: They requested me to dance.
       Passive: I was requested to dance.

30. Active: Does he carry a bag ?
       Passive: Is a bag carried by him ?

31. Active: Why are you making a noise ?
       Passive: Why is a noise being made by you ?

32. Active: Were they playing chess ?
       Passive: Was chess being played by them ?

33. Active: Had you kept your promise ?
       Passive: Had your promise been kept by you ?

34. Active: The pilot flew a plane.
       Passive: A plane was flown by the pilot.

35. Active: We know a man by his deeds.
       Passive: A man is known by his deeds.

36. Active: Who will have done this job ?
       Passive: By whom will have this job been done ?

37. Active: Who will pay your fine ?
       Passive: By whom will your fine be paid ?

38. Active: What do you do ?
       Passive: What is done by you ?

39. Active: We gave him a warm send - off.
       Passive: A warm send - off was given to him by us.

40: Active: Sita married Rama.
       Passive: Rama was married to Sita.
