The tale of custard the dragon is a ballad. It is a poem about a little girl named, Belinda and her pets, who lives in a little white house. She had a black kitten named Ink, a grey mouse named Blink and a yellow dog called Mustard and the cowardly dragon custard. It is a humorous poem about a cowardly dragon named custard.

The poet says that all of them are very brave except the dragon. All pets were described as brave and are compared with animals like bear, tiger ans lion but the dragon is very coward as He always demands a safe and separate place for himself.

Belinda and other pets make fun of dragon. But one day they are surprised to see a very fearsome pirate in their house. Then all of them get frightened and start hiding here and there. But surprising everyone, the dragon not only fight against him but also eats him up. All of them are saved by custard from the pirate they thanked him.

Again at the end, they realize that they used to make fun of the dragon because of his behaviour like a child. So, all of them suddenly start saying that they are more brave and could have handled the situation in a much better way than the dragon.

Moral of the poem is sometimes a timid person can be the actual hero in the toughest situations of life.

ड्रैगन की कस्टर्ड की कहानी एक गाथा है। यह एक छोटी लड़की का नाम है, जिसका नाम बेलिंडा और उसके पालतू जानवर हैं, जो एक छोटे से सफेद घर में रहती है। उसके पास स्याही का एक काला बिल्ली का बच्चा, ब्लिंक नाम का एक ग्रे माउस और एक पीला कुत्ता था जिसे मस्टर्ड और कायर ड्रैगन कस्टर्ड कहा जाता था। यह कायर नाम के एक कायर अजगर के बारे में एक हास्य कविता है।

अंत में, उन्हें एहसास हुआ कि वे ड्रैगन का मज़ाक उड़ाते थे क्योंकि वह एक बच्चे की तरह व्यवहार करता था। इसलिए, वे सभी अचानक कहने लगे कि वे अधिक बहादुर हैं और ड्रैगन की तुलना में स्थिति को बहुत बेहतर तरीके से संभाल सकते थे।

• Stanza 1

Belinda lived in a little white house,
With a little black kitten and a little grey mouse,
And a little yellow dog and a little red wagon,
And a realio, trulio, little pet dragon.

Explanation: The poem starts with introducing the character of the poem - Belinda, a little girl, she lived in a little white house with her pets and a wogon. Her pets named a black kitten, a little grey mouse, a little yellow dog and a little dragon.

• Stanza 2

Now the name of the little black kitten was Ink, 
And the little grey mouse, she called him Blink,
And the little yellow dog was sharp as Mustard,
But the dragon was a coward, and she called him Custard.

Explanation: Belinda, the little girl named her little black kitten as Ink and her gray mouse was called Blink. The yellow dog was as sharp as Mustard and she called her dragon custard. She called her dragon custard as he was a coward for her.

• Stanza 3

Custard the dragon had big sharp teeth, 
And spikes on top of him and scales underneath,
Mouth like a fireplace, chimney for a nose,
And realio, trulio daggers on his toes.

Explanation: Poet describes the physical appearance. The dragon looks very scary and powerful. It has big sharp teeth and spikes on its back. He has power to spit fire that makes his mouth looks like fireplace and nose looks like chimney. And the custard toes are like sharp dagger.

• Stanza 4

Belinda was as brave as a barrel full of bears, 
And Ink and Blink chased lions down the stairs,
Mustard was as brave as a tiger in a rage,
But Custard cried for a nice safe cage.

Explanation : The poet says, all the members of the house except the dragon are very brave. Belinda's bravery is compared to bravery of many bears combined together. Ink and Blink are so brave that they have power to chase and scare lion, dog is so brave as a tiger when he is in anger. But the custard is coward and always keeps crying for a separate shelter.

Belinda tickled him, she tickled him unmerciful, 
Ink, Blink and Mustard, they rudely called him Percival,
They all sat laughing in the little red wagon
At the realio, trulio, cowardly dragon.

Explanation : Belinda used to insult and touch the dragon for fun, other pets called the dragon percival. Since the dragon is shy he react to their action softly which made all of them to laugh at him sitting in the red wagon.

Belinda giggled till she shook the house, 
And Blink said Weeck! which is giggling for a mouse,
Ink and Mustard rudely asked his age,
When Custard cried for a nice safe cage.

Explanation : When the dragon cried for a safe and separate shelter, Belinda laughed at him till she shake the house, Blink said 'week' that is giggling sound of a mouse. The Ink and Mustard asked the dragon his age to make fun of him. It shows that the dragon behaved like a small kid. Suddenly, suddenly they heard a nasty sound, 
And Mustard growled, and they all looked around.
Meowch! cried Ink, and ooh! cried Belinda,
For there was a pirate, climbing in the winda.

Explanation : Whle they were making fun of the dragon. They heard a very unpleasant sound, all looked around. Mustard growled at the sound, Ink cried meowch and Belinda cried Ooh. When they saw that there was a pirate climbing the window of their house.

Pistol in his left hand, pistol in his right, 
And he held in his teeth a cutlass bright,
His beard was black, one leg was wood;
It was clear that the pirate meant no good.

Explanation : In this stanza, the poet described the physical appearance of the pirate. He had two pistols in his hand, his teeth were sharp and bright like blade ( cutlass ). He had black beard and a wooden leg. As a whole he looked very fearsome. The housemate understood that the pirate came there to harm them.

Belinda paled, and she cried Help! Help! 
But Mustard fled with a terrified yelp,
Ink trickled down to the bottom of the household,
And little mouse Blink strategically mouseholed.

Explanation : When they saw the pirate, Belinda feared and became pale, brave Mustard made a huge cry and ran away, Ink quitely went to under the household and Blink went in to the mouse hole. All her brave pet disappeared leaving her alone.

But up jumped Custard, snorting like an engine, 
Clashed his tail like irons in a dungeon,
With a clatter and a clank and a jangling squirm,
He went at the pirate like a robin at a worm

Explanation :  When everyone fled and Belinda was left alone, Custard came forward to help her. He fought with the pirate bravely. He jumped at the pirate and made noise in anger. He moved his tail striking iron on a wall. He attacked the pirate like how a bird 'robin' attacked a worm.

• Stanza 11

The pirate gaped at Belinda’s dragon, 
And gulped some grog from his pocket flagon,
He fired two bullets, but they didn’t hit,
And Custard gobbled him, every bit.

Explanation :  When Custard attacked the pirate, pirate took out some wine from the bottle he carried in his pocket and fired two bullets at Custard, but it didn't hit him. Then Custard swallowed the whole pirate.

• Stanza 12

Belinda embraced him, Mustard licked him, 
No one mourned for his pirate victim.
Ink and Blink in glee did gyrate
Around the dragon that ate the pirate.

Explanation : Dragon ate the pirate, then there was joy at the house. Belinda embraced him inorder to express gratitude for saving. Mustard licked the dragon, the way a dog show love for someone. Ink and Blink started dancing around the dragon out of happiness. There was no grief for the pirate's death.

• Stanza 13

But presently up spoke little dog Mustard, 
I’d have been twice as brave if I hadn’t been flustered.
And up spoke Ink and up spoke Blink,
We’d have been three times as brave, we think,
And Custard said, I quite agree
That everybody is braver than me.

Explanation : Mustard started give his excuses for his cowardice , said he would have been twice brave if he had not got nervous, the  Ink and Blink started saying they were thrice brave than the dragon. Dragon simply accepted that they all are more braver than him.

• Stanza 14

Belinda still lives in her little white house, 
With her little black kitten and her little grey mouse,
And her little yellow dog and her little red wagon,

Explanation : At last, the poet used the same lines again to show that after this terrific incident, which the dragon was the hero where all the other characters still undermined him by saying that they were more powerful.
