Places near Dehradun one must visit

Assan Barrage

Assan Barrage is a small dam built on the river of the same name. the Assan Barrage is made to divert the water of the Assan river into the Eastern Yamuna canal. The dam creates a small reservoir called Dhalipur Lake, which is a heaven for birdwatchers. 

You can find about 53 species that are indigenous to the region, while about 19 species migrate from around the world to this location. A quiet place in the midst of nature, the lake and the barrage attracts a large number of tourists who come here to look at the birds and photograph them.

Chakrata

Chakrata It is one of the best places to visit near Dehradun. Chakrata is located at a distance of 98 km from Dehradun. The serene environment here makes you feel a pleasure.

 

In Chakrata, you can enjoy many interesting activities from camping to trekking. The most visited forests here include coniferous, rhododendron and oak trees. If you like to do nature photography, then surely this place will not disappoint you.

Kempty Waterfall

If you want to behold the beauty of nature in a serene environment, then you should go to the Kempty Waterfall.  This waterfall is about 50 kilometers away from Dehradun.  

It is an ancient and natural waterfall. It is a pleasure to see this natural waterfall falling from very high altitudes. The source of this ancient waterfall was reconstructed about 150 years ago, during the British rule by an English officer named Jaun Maccannon.

Dhanaulti

Dhanaulti is about 65 km from ISBT Dehradun. It is one of the smallest but beautiful tourist destinations near Dehradun. Especially, if you are planning to spend weekends near Dehradun during the summer season, then you can go to Dhanaulti.  

At the same time, when snow falls here in January, it becomes one of the most spectacular places to visit in Uttarakhand in winter. Here you can enjoy activities like skywalk, rappelling, trekking, zip lining and rock climbing.  

On the other hand, if you talk about the major attractions here, it includes Surkanda Devi and Dashavatar, Devgarh Fort, Eco Park, Beripani and Joranda Falls and Potato Farm etc.

Kalsi

If you want to go to an offbeat destination near Dehradun, Kalsi is one of them you must visit. In the middle of Chakrata and Dehradun on the banks of river Yamuna, there is a village called Kalsi.  

The village is known for the importance of its heritage, and the tribal community, which includes the Khils, Bhutis, and Mundars, has been living here for years. If you like to learn about different types of cultures, then Kalsi has a lot for you.  Here you will get the opportunity to experience folk music to unique festivals and food.

Mussoorie

Mussoorie is located at the height of almost 1900 meters from the sea levels this landscape of nature has become a paradise for the tourists with a passage of time.
