Resume meaning

A resume is a brief profile about you, typically resume is in one page, highlighting your skills, experience, career goals and knowledge.

Types of Resume
Three common resume styles are
• Reverse Chronological
• Functional
• Combination of both. 

Reverse Chronological Resume

Reverse Chronological resume style emphasizes, extracurricular activities and academic related experience. List the most recently help position followed by your next most position and so forth. Include the following
• Name, City and State of organisation
• Starting and ending months and years of service
• Specific organizational department
• Accomplishments
• Responsibilities
• Skills gained or developed
• Specialized knowledge acquired

Functional Resume

This is a good resume style for those who have a wide range of experience or changing career direction.

The functional resume emphasizes experience acquired through various job responsibilities and de - emphasizes where experience was gained and dates of employment.

The functional resume allows you to display a more obvious match between your skills, knowledge, and experience and those required of the position or career field of interest to you.


Resume Tips


• Make your resume professional, attractive and easy to read.
• Place the most important information first.
• Choose headers to highlight your individual strengths.
• Bold, italicize, capitalize or underline critical facts.
• Do not include personal information like race, caste etc.
• Stress results, skills and accomplishments rather than duties performed.
• Avoid personal pronouns (I, me, my)
• Use the correct tense when describing past / present activities.
• Limit your resume to one page if possible.
• Print your resume on good quality white paper.

Resume Sections or Resume format

• Contact information : Include your full name, permanent and  local address, phone number, email id.

• Objective : Write a brief statement summarizing the type of work you want to do and a career field in which you are interested. Focus on skills, begin with active verbs such as 'seeking', 'desire' or 'to obtain'

• Education : Summarise your educational achievements. Start with most recent degree and work backward in time. Do not list high school or earlier education unless it is exceptional in some way.

• Experience : List any experience relevant to your started job objective, whether paid or honourary. Include full time or part time experience if have any.

• Activities : Emphasize any significant activities, community service or extra curricular activities and highlight leadership roles.

• Honors and Awards : This point is optional, if award of organisation is well known, list them.

• Languages : Mention your communication skills, mention the language that you can write and speak.

• References : References should not appear on your resume.  You will need to create a separate reference page that should include that person's name, title, address and contact number. (Generally, you do not need to state references on your resume.)
