Belize Maya Forest Reserve 

A big campaign has recently started to save the largest tropical rainforest in America. In April 2021, the Conservationists' Association purchased 236,000 acres of tropical rainforest to create the 'Belize Maya Forest Reserve' in north-western Belize.

This sole reserve protects about 10 percent of Belize's territory.  It preserves more than 400 species of birds, including Belize's national animal tapir and black howler monkey. Apart from this, efforts are also being made to save the rapidly decreasing jaguar population in Central America.

Caprivi Strip, Namibia

The Namibian Desert is known for its high dunes and dry mountains. But here in the Caprivi Strip, there are plenty of lush forests and wildlife. Here rivers like the Okavango, Kwando, Chobe and Zambezi make it an ideal place for many species of animals. 

The area was known for military activities during the second half of the 20th century. It was a prime corridor for armed groups, so not everyone was allowed to go here. But as soon as Namibia became independent in 1990, wildlife and peace were restored here.

The 'Nakasa Rupara National Park' situated in its eastern part is like a mysterious treasure. A ranger station and tent lodge have been opened here in recent years which have made tourism more accessible.

Lake Baikal, Russia

The deep and huge Baikal Lake is considered by the local residents to be an ocean. Spread for about 12,200 miles and 2,442 feet deep, this lake is a wonderful sight of nature. 

However, now there is a crisis on this lake. Lake Baikal, recorded in UNESCO's World Heritage Site (1996), has been a victim of pollution in the last few years. As a result, the 'International Union for Conservation of Nature' has also expressed concern about this in 2020.

Visitors are trying to save it in collaboration with the Great Baikal Trail Association. According to the organization's president, Elena Chubakova, 'This non-profit environmental group is building a long walkway around the lake. Along with this, ecotourism infrastructure is also being promoted here.

Northern Minnesota

Its two largest parts are in Minnesota. The first, 'Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness', which is the world's largest dark sky sanctuary built on millions of acres.  

Second, Voyagers National Park, which is the country's first International Dark Sky Park. Both these places have also got Dark Sky Certification in the year 2020. In addition, Ontario's Quetico Province Park has attained the status of International Dark Sky Park in early 2021.

Victoria, Australia 

Greenery is now scattered again on Australia's Great Ocean Road.  This is the same place, about 72,000 square miles of which was burnt to ashes in the bushfires of 2019-2020. 

About three dozen people and crores of animals died in these accidents. The new wildlife is a marvel in Victoria's Otways region, just off the Great Ocean Road amid lush pristine forests and waterfalls.  

It is the brainchild of landscape designer Brian Massey of the Hobbiton Movie Set Tour in New Zealand.  Massey has worked closely with botanists, scientists, zoologists and environmental specialists.
