The Scholar’s Mother Tongue class 4 Summary in English
Once there lived a scholar (pandit). He new all the languages. Oneday he visited the court of Akbar and introduced himself as a master of many languages, and could speak many languages fluently. He challenged all present there to find out what his mother tongue was.
But none in the court could able to tell this as he was very fluently speaking all languages. Then Birbal accepted the challenge.
At night Birbal secretly entered the room where our Pundit was sleeping. Then Birbal whispered something in his ears and also tickled his ear ninth a feather. Half awaken the pandit uttered some words in his mother tongue.
The next day Birbal announced in the court that the Pandit mother tongue is Telugu. The pandit agreed to it. Akbar was astonished and congratulated Birbal and asks him how he found out the truth.
Birbal explained that in times of difficulty a person speaks his mother tongue. Then he narrates the entire incident that took place in the pandit’s bedroom, the previous night.
In this way Birbal found out the learned Pandit’s mother tongue and the latter graciously accepted the truth.

एक बार एक विद्वान (पंडित) रहता था। वह सभी भाषाओं को नया करता है। एक दिन वह अकबर के दरबार में गया और उसने अपना परिचय कई भाषाओं के उस्ताद के रूप में दिया और कई भाषाएँ धाराप्रवाह बोल सकता था। उन्होंने वहां मौजूद सभी लोगों को यह पता लगाने की चुनौती दी कि उनकी मातृभाषा क्या है।
लेकिन अदालत में कोई भी यह नहीं बता सका क्योंकि वह बहुत धाराप्रवाह सभी भाषाएं बोल रहा था। तब बीरबल ने चुनौती स्वीकार कर ली।
रात को बीरबल चुपके से उस कमरे में दाखिल हुआ जहाँ हमारा पंडित सो रहा था। तभी बीरबल ने उसके कानों में कुछ फुसफुसाया और उसके कान में नौवां पंख भी गुदगुदाया। आधा जागकर पंडित ने अपनी मातृभाषा में कुछ शब्द बोले।
अगले दिन बीरबल ने अदालत में घोषणा की कि पंडित की मातृभाषा तेलुगु है। पंडित ने इसके लिए हामी भर दी। अकबर चकित रह गया और उसने बीरबल को बधाई दी और उससे पूछा कि उसे सच्चाई का पता कैसे चला।
बीरबल ने समझाया कि कठिनाई के समय व्यक्ति अपनी मातृभाषा बोलता है। फिर वह पंडित के शयनकक्ष में बीती रात हुई पूरी घटना सुनाता है।
इस तरह बीरबल ने पंडित की मातृभाषा का पता लगाया और बाद वाले ने विनम्रतापूर्वक सच्चाई को स्वीकार कर लिया।
