Ans: The two protocols commonly used for working the Internet are Internet Protocol (IP) and Transmission Control Protocol (TCP).


2. Explain the use of channels.

Ans: In Internet most computer networks are connected directly to it. However, in many network computer cannot have direct connection to the Internet. Such networks are inturn connected to another network through channels. A channel is a medium used to carry information or data from one computer to another. These channels then connected to Internet via routers and modems. This way, several path ways from one system to another can be established.


3. Differentiate between routers and a modem.

Ans: (i) Routers are devices that direct Internet traffic by determining the best path to be taken. On the Other hand, Modems helps computer and computer networks to connect to the Internet.


(ii) Routers help to transmit signals, but cannot convert the signal from one from to another. One the Other hand, Modem cannot send the signal, but then convert the digital signal to analog signal and vice versa.


4. What is an IP address and what is its use ?

Ans: Each computer system on the Internet has an Internet address called IP address. This address is used to exchange information,send or received e-mail messages etc. By adding the IP address of the sender and the destination to each packet so that it reaches the correct destination.


5. Explain the process of sending data from one computer system to another.

Ans: While sending data from one computer to another, it is broken up into pieces called packets using TCP. IP adds the IP address of the sender and the destination to each packets so that it reaches the correct destination. At the destination, TCP resembles the packets into a complete message. This is how data can be send from one computer system to another.


6. What do you mean by modulation and demodulation ?

Ans: The process of converting digital signal to analog signal is called modulation and converting the analog signal to digital signal is called demodulation.

The full form of Modem is Modulation and Demodulation. The process of converting  digital data into analog data is called Modulation. And The process of converting analog data into digital data is called Demodulation.


There are two type of Modem,

i. Internal Modem: Internal Modem is a Modem which is placed inside the CPU.

ii. External Modem:  External Modem is a Modem which is placed outside the  CPU.
