He receives offers from powerful, rich and beautiful person, but he turns down all of them. At last a child playing with shells said to him, he would hire him for nothing and this made the speaker feel happy and free. He finally accepts the offer of a child which is the last bargain.

1. Who is the speaker in the poem ?

Ans: The speaker in the poem is a man who is looking for work.


2. “The king, sword in hand” suggests

       (i) wealth

       (ii) power
